  1. Lady Macbeth is a frightening and manipulative woman who uses the art of manipulation to try to get her husband Macbeth to kill Duncan. She wants to become the queen and have power but cannot kill the king herself because she is a woman. Instead, she convinces a humble and "noble" Macbeth to slay him. However, he is hesitant in commiting regicide. Lady Macbeth also tells Macbeth that he is not a man. She says that once he kills Duncan, “then you were a man”(I,vii,49). She uses feminine methods and strategies in order to achieve what seems to be masculine desires. At one point of in the first act, she has a soliloquy in which she wants to be "unsexed" so that her gender does not stand in the way of commiting murder. I believe that Lady Macbeth is the main antagonist and the most powerful character as well.

I don't know about the rest of the class but I really like what Shakespeare did with Lady Macbeth. She is my favorite character in this play and the most interest to watch/read. I think she is one of the most villainious characters we have ever read in a Shakespearian play.

  2. 1. It is lady Macbeth!
    2. Because she wants to "unsex" herself. Lady Macbeth is a very masculine women, and her actions are masculine as well. She is very demanding, and knows what she wants. And I think that this soliloquy defines the type of abrupt, strong wilded woman she is in this play, which is also why I agree with Brandon, that she uses her strength and masculinity to manipulate her husband.
    3. The reason she speaks the way she does to her husband is so that she can force and manipulate him into doing immoral actions, such as killing Duncan. If she wasn't that way, then her husband would not do what she asks on his own, because she is very influential.
    4. I think that Macbeth is vulnerable to his wife, because she's so influential on him, and seems like he doesn't want to disappointed her. Macbeth tries to please his wife as much as he can because he knows that she is more dangerous then he is.
    5. Lady Macbeth like said before is very demanding to her husband, and in a way puts him down, by bringing out his weak aspects. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth what will happen if he fails, telling him that he wont be King, and that he won't have power, but in all actuality I don't really think Macbeth cares as much as she does. But her opinions and judgments make him questions her theories.
    6. I think that he refuses because he doesn't feel comfortable doing what she asks.
    7. Because he wants to please her as said before, and maybe deep inside he wants power, but not as much as she does.
Lady Macbeth is also one of my favorite characters, Girl Power!

  3. This is lady Macbeth. In my opinion the use of certain words like unsex as Brittany mention, is one way to characterize what she wants. It is in a way foreshadow of what she is waling to do in order foe her to get to the level of his husband. Or show that there is a reason why he marries her. In my opinion besides the fact that she is masculine or not she what really the same appreciation as her husband and in a way she want to be respected.
Some of the vulnerabilities that Macbeth has is that he is not determinant, an as Brittany say he seems that he didn’t want to disappoint his wife.
She seems appears to love his husband, she is very vigorous to Macbeth however it seem that she is really doing it for her (killing Duncan). And I say love because she some times it is imply that she has waited for him long periods of time specially because Macbeth war men.
I think that he doesn’t want to do it because he doesn’t have the guts to.
At the end it looks like he did to please her. And the Prophecy of the sisters I think it a great influence in what they both committed.

  4. 1.)This is Lady Macbeth.
2.) She says what she does in her soliloquy because she wants to take down Duncan. She wants to be like a man she even says "unsex me". Her soliloquy shows how strong and devious she is.
3.) She speaks to him so demanding so that he can kill Duncan. Its not that she is trying to persuade him to kill Duncan she is basically tell him he has to kill Duncan. I agree with Brittany I don't think Macbeth would have killed Duncan if he wasn't with his wife.
4.)I think she is basically telling Macbeth that his vulnerability is that he is weak. He says he wants to kill Duncan and then says he doesn't want to. She proves her dominance over him.
5.)Lady Macbeth is very influential on her husband. She makes him kill Duncan because if he doesn't she will.
6.) He refuses because he doesn't want to kill Duncan after Duncan praised him so much but Macbeth still does it.
7.) He does it because his wife and to get everything over with. In Act 1 scene 7 he says "If it were done when ’tis done, then ’twere well it were done quickly. "
8.)They started him to think about being King. After their prophecy of thane of Cawdor was right he knew he was going to be king. The way to be king is to kill the king.

  5. 1. This woman is Lady Macbeth

    2. I agree with Maurice, she says what she does in her soliloquy because she wishes that she could be a man so that she could have more power then her husband ans so that she can control him. This is why she says "unsex me".

    3. Lady Macbeth basically commands her husband so that he can kill Duncan. I agree with both Maurice and Brittany, if it wasn't for Lady Macbeth persuading him to kill Duncan he wouldn't have done it.

    4. I think Macbeth is trying to please his wife as much as he can because I feel like his wife has so much control of him and I believe she thinks that he is very feeble. He said that he will kill Duncan but in his heart he really doesn't want to and says he doesn't. This is why she thinks he is not strong.

    5. Lady Macbeth wants her husband to be King. So what she does is points out his flaws which basically makes Macbeth feel bad. I agree with Britanny because she is very demanding of him she wants to have power so bad and so she puts so much pressure on Macbeth.

    6. Macbeth refuses to do what his wife asks for because he is very sympathetic of Duncan after Duncan showed him so much respect but then eventually kills him.

    7. He changes his mind and commit himself to her planned regicide because he wants to please her and I also believe that he wants royalty for both of them.

    8. The Weird Sisters influenced Macbeth's decision because they put in his mind that royalty is very important and that it can make him have so much power over society itself.

    1. The woman is Lady Macbeth.
    2. Lady Macbeth says what she says in her soliloquy so her husband can kill Duncan. She is a strong, firm and demanding woman, who knows what she wants.
    3. She speaks to her husband the way she does in order to get him to do what she wants. For example when she says that he wont be a man until he kills Duncan. It shows what the manipulative person she is.
    4. she thinks Macbeth's vulnerabilities are that he is weak. Lady Macbeth can get him to do anything she wants and shows that she has control over him.
    5. Lady Macbeth has a great affect on Macbeth. Like I mentioned before she manipulates Macbeth, has control over him and gets him to kill Duncan in order for Macbeth to become king, which is exactly what she wants.
    6. Macbeth refuses to do what his wife asks because he is loyal and sympathetic of Duncan because of the respect King Duncan showed him.
    7. Macbeth changes his mind and commits himself to Lady Macbeth's regicide because he wants to please his wife and get it over with so he can be king.
    8. The weird sisters influenced Macbeth's decision by telling him the prophecy that he was going to become king and from saying Hail Macbeth! so much.
